About Us
The Swan Valley Camera Club (SVCC) is a small volunteer-run photography club whose home base is in Ellenbrook, on the edge of the Swan Valley. When formed in 2005, the club was known as “The Ellenbrook Photographers Group”, but the name was revised in 2011 to “The Swan Valley Camera Club” to better reflect the broad territory covered by the club.
Formed as the result of a successful “Artist in Residence” programme and community exhibition run by the Ellenbrook Cultural foundation, the club has continued to build and encourage photographers of all standards to enjoy their hobby and still exists primarily for that purpose with regular workshops, outings and member image exhibitions. The Club membership includes photography enthusiasts of all experience levels, from beginners to professionals, and new members are most welcome to come along. Visitors from other camera clubs and generally are always welcome.
The clubs meeting calendar runs from the 4th Wednesday in January to the 2nd Wednesday in December, with the first meeting (January) a meet and greet / membership night and the last meeting (December) an end of year event.
The club is run by a committee of volunteers who work hard in the background to provide a variety of opportunities and a diverse program for the club Members’.
They organise workshops throughout the year, sometimes linked to outings to help Members’ learn new or hone existing skills, or at the club rooms dedicated to a particular aspect of photography from basic camera use to advanced techniques and post processing images on a computer.
They plan the exhibition calendar around Members’ preferences, the workshops and outings to provide Members’ with opportunities to present their work and receive constructive feedback to help them develop.

Club Committee 2026
President
Our President for 2026 is Ann Ackerman. In her second year Ann is a Nikon camera user who has been with the club for many years.
Starting as a novice, Ann has developed her skills through the club and become a very capable photographer whose images frequently receive compliments from Judges and club members alike.
Ann takes every opportunity to get out and practice with her camera whether photographing landscapes, nature or even astro photography
Ann is now looking at entering images into the next level of competitions including those run by the WAPS and the Royal Show.
Vice President
Vice President Ruth Smith is a club regular supporting members on outings and often ending up in Members’ images due to her antics. She is a frequent award winner in the club exhibitions.
Ruth also acts as the interclub competition coordinator working with the Bickley, Serpentine and TAG clubs to organise the annual Interclub competition and presentation night.
Secretary
Paul Morfitt is our current Secretary, keeping everything for the club organised and documented. Paul has been involved with the club for many years and has slowly built up his knowledge to where he now has his own style within his favourite genres.
Treasurer
James Mathews has been our club treasurer for a number of years and continues to count the beans for the club, ensuring the payments for our club rooms and WAPF memberships are all in place and most importantly the tea and coffee on club nights.
Not satisfied with just supporting our club, James was also the President of the WAPF in 2024 and 2025 and continues to support our central federation to this day.
Property, Social and Media Manager
Dan Dwiar.
I picked up my camera again three years ago after a 5 year break. I was amazed at how advanced the features of today’s cameras have come in such a short period of time.
I try to diversify my fields of preference, however gravitate back to birds, particularly when they are on the wing. I look forward to broadening my horizons to include landscapes, street and macro.
Being a part of a club gives me exposure to different techniques, as well as interacting with other photographers in order to improve across the board.
Recently retired, I find that the hobby helps fill my day and gets me out and about to see all that the State of WA has to offer.
Competition Director
Gary Tindale
I have been a member of the club for many years and on the committee for almost as long. I took on the role of Competition Director after my stint as President and have been in the role now for over 6 years.
I am not a professional photographer by any means as I have a real job to pay my mortgage, That said, I am well known across WA photography circles as a photographer, photography instructor and judge and often provide clubs with workshops to help others learn more about this rewarding hobby or as a judge providing feedback to members about their images.
A Canon aficionado since I bought my first “proper” SLR in the early 1980’s, a Canon EOS10. Since then I have added EOS5, EOS100 and EOS1D MkII before switching to Mirrorless. You may find me taking the mickey if you use another brand of camera, but I assure you it is all in jest. Well ……..
Rarely without a camera in hand, you will find me out in the bush at night capturing images of bugs, sitting quietly amongst the trees snapping images of wildlife in its natural habitat or heading out somewhere to capture images of the stars, nebulae and galaxies.
